BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Almost three months after Hurricane Irma barreled through Brevard County, nearly a dozen county parks are still closed.
Parks and Recreation workers are still clearing debris and trying to evaluate the safety of docks that were inaccessible due to high water.

Park visitors are welcomed by barricades warning them of potential dangers due to extensive damage from the hurricane.
“It's a mess. I fish here regularly. The dock itself is a good place to fish. But, since the hurricane, it seems like it's taking a long time to clean up,” park visitor Mike Mansfield said.
Parks and Recreation is still working to place a dollar amount on the damage to its parks, but some areas haven't been accessible for officials to determine the full extent of the damage.

“The thing about Hurricane Matthew versus Irma -- where that was a leaf and limb event, this was more of a tree and branches event. So, it's taken a little longer for the cleanup to happen. Plus, it was a high water event,” Brevard County Communications Director Don Walker said.
