VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Luis Toledo, the main suspect in the disappearance of his wife and his stepchildren, was in court for a pretrial hearing Tuesday.
Toledo, 33, who has been in jail for over a year, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Yessenia Suarez, 28. He is charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Suarez's children, Michael Otto, 8, and Thalia Otto, 9.
On Tuesday the biological father of the two children shared his thoughts of Toledo.
"I see evil, to be quite honest with you. I mean, I don't know how a person could live with themselves," said Michael Otto.
The bodies Suarez and her children have not been found.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has been investigating tips on their whereabouts with no results since they disappeared from Deltona in October 2013.
Toledo told investigators he hit Suarez, killing her, but claims someone else killed the children.
Felicia Perez, the children's maternal grandmother, said their loss has been a constant source of anguish for her.
"It's not easy. I prayed a lot for it. I stay connected to God. That's the only thing that keeps me going day by day," said Perez.
Channel 9 learned that Toledo could go to trial this summer.
Perez hopes he is tried soon.
"There's so much I would love to say to him and I know there's going to come a day that will let me tell him how I feel," said Perez.
Toledo's next hearing is scheduled for March.
