Identities confirmed of two bodies found in DeBary home

DeBARY, Fla. — Autopsies on Friday confirmed the identities of two bodies found by deputies in a home in DeBary.

Richard Powers, 81, and Lenora Powers, 72, were found dead in a home on Jasmine Drive Thursday after a neighbor flagged down rescue units and reported that a "smell of death" was coming from the home.

Gary Bartlett said he went to the house around 1 p.m. to check on the couple after their daughter was unable to contact them and asked him to check in.

Deputies and firefighters entered the home for a well-being check and found the Powerses' bodies, but were unable to immediately identify them due to decomposition.

A Volusia sheriff's spokesperson said there was no sign of struggle or forced entry.

Deputies said additional testing is still needed to determine their causes of death.
