NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A red-tailed hawk is receiving specialized care after it was found injured at a New Smyrna Beach school.
A School Resource Officer at Sacred Heart Catholic School recently spotted the injured hawk on campus and contacted the New Smyrna Beach Police Department for help.
Animal Control Officer Wulf responded and safely captured the bird. According to police, the hawk appeared to have injuries to its feet and talons that were consistent with a possible fight with another large raptor.
The hawk was then transported to the Bird Hospital at the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet, where it can receive specialized treatment.
Police thanked the School Resource Officer, ACO Wulf and the Marine Science Center for their quick response and assistance in helping the injured bird.
The department said it hopes the hawk makes a speedy recovery and eventually returns to the skies.
