ORLANDO, Fla. — The Atlantic is keeping forecasters busy as two tropical disturbances are being monitored, though their chances of development are quite different.
Invest 95L, located near Bermuda, is seeing its potential for development decrease.
Regardless, the disturbance is expected to move north to northeast over the next several days, taking it farther away from the U.S. East Coast.
Attention is shifting instead to Invest 96L, which is located just off the coast of Africa.
This system has a much better chance of becoming the Atlantic’s next named storm, with development possible within the next 48 hours.
If 96L develops, it will have a long journey across the Atlantic.
The disturbance is expected to approach the Caribbean this weekend, where it will encounter increasing wind shear.
That wind shear could make it difficult for the system to maintain or strengthen its organization.
Forecasters will continue to monitor its progress and how it responds to the changing environment.
If Invest 96L does become a tropical storm, the next name on the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season list is Dolly.
For now, there are no indications that either disturbance poses an immediate threat to the U.S., but conditions can change quickly during hurricane season.
