CASSELBERRY, Fla.,None — Police say a Seminole County man was arrested on child porn charges stemming from Alaska, after he called 911 to report his neighbor's death.
52-year-old John Pyatt ended up in the Seminole County not long after he made the 911 call. Police say he found his neighbor, Una Lipham, dead in her home and reported the discovery.
When Casselberry police ran a background check on Pyatt, they discovered he had an outstanding warrant from Alaska for child porn charges.
“Shocked, completely shocked. My first question was how was he even able to have his kids?,” said neighbor Elizabeth Yurkiewicz.
Neighbors told WFTV Pyatt has a son and a daughter. Investigators in Alaska say child porn was found on Pyatt’s computer in 2010 but he fled the state shortly after.
“I knew nothing about it until I talked the police after she died,” said neighbor David Yurkiewicz.
Casselberry detectives are also questioning Pyatt’s relationship with Lipham, who was 87-years-old.
Residents in the neighborhood are also critical of their relationship.
“From what Una told me over the last couple of months she had been signing everything over to him. Something didn’t seem right about it,” explained Yurkiewicz.
Police are also investigating why the elderly widow gave Pyatt control of all of her finances just months before she died.
Officials say there were no signs of trauma on Lipham’s body, but investigators are anxiously awaiting autopsy results.
