MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. — Authorities continued searching Monday for a swimmer who disappeared off the Brevard County coast Sunday.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office identified the missing man as 53-year-old Jason Doyle.
Deputies said Doyle entered the water with a boogie board near Melbourne Beach on Sunday morning and did not resurface. His disappearance was reported around 9:30 a.m.
The search entered its second day Monday in the waters near Juan Ponce de Leon Landing.
Channel 9 observed boats and aircraft searching the area Sunday. The effort included the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Brevard County Fire Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The Coast Guard confirmed Monday morning that it had suspended its involvement. Sheriff’s deputies and FWC officers remained on the water, and the Sheriff’s Office said its search was still active.
Doyle remains missing. Authorities have not released additional information about his disappearance.
