TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A juvenile bicyclist was airlifted to a local trauma center Monday morning after a crash involving a vehicle outside James Madison Middle School, according to the Titusville Police Department.
Interim Police Chief Tyler “TJ” Wright said the incident happened around 9 a.m. as a driver was exiting the school’s parking lot.
According to police, the bicyclist was riding on the sidewalk and crossing the school’s exit driveway when they encountered the vehicle. The bicyclist attempted to stop to avoid a collision, fell off the bike, and slid underneath the vehicle.
Police said the juvenile was not physically run over by the vehicle.
The bicyclist was alert after the crash and complained of minor injuries. As a precaution, the juvenile was flown to a local trauma center for evaluation, Wright said.
The driver was cited for failing to stop, according to police. No other injuries were reported.
