OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A Kissimmee mother was arrested after deputies said she left her four children home alone while she traveled to Las Vegas.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to a home on Parkway Boulevard shortly after 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 after a child called 911 and reported that her 9-year-old brother had been injured when a dumbbell fell on his head.
Deputies said they arrived to find four children, ages 14, 12, 11 and 9, inside the home without an adult present.
According to the sheriff’s office, the 9-year-old boy was taken to Celebration Hospital for treatment and was later released.
Deputies said they contacted the children’s mother, 50-year-old Irene Miller, by phone and she told them she was working in Las Vegas and planned to return Oct. 23.
Investigators said Miller had left for Las Vegas on Oct. 18 and told deputies a babysitter from Tampa came in the mornings to get the children ready for school and checked on them after school, but did not stay overnight.
The sheriff’s office said the children’s father was contacted and took all four children to his home.
According to OCSO, detectives met Miller when she returned from Las Vegas on Oct. 23 and arrested her.
Deputies said Miller faces four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm and was booked into the Orange County Jail.
