KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A 68-year-old Kissimmee woman has been arrested after investigators say she intentionally overdosed her two adult sons in an attempt to kill them.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just after 10 a.m. on Sept. 8 to a home on Indian Ridge Trail South for a reported overdose.
When deputies arrived, they found Marilyn Elise Therrell, 68, and her two sons, ages 30 and 32, suffering from apparent medication overdoses. All three were transported to Celebration Hospital for treatment.
Detectives launched an investigation and said evidence collected at the home, along with interviews with a family member and the property’s landlord, led them to suspect the overdoses were intentional.
On Sept. 17, investigators interviewed Therrell, who reportedly told detectives that caring for her severely autistic adult sons had become increasingly difficult since her husband died last year.
According to the sheriff’s office, Therrell admitted she intentionally gave her sons medication in an attempt to kill them.
Therrell was arrested and booked into the Osceola County Jail. She is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated abuse of a disabled adult.
The investigation remains ongoing.
