LADY LAKE, Fla. — Lady Lake police conducted 164 traffic stops during a regional campaign targeting speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors.
The Operation Southern Slow Down campaign ran from July 13 through July 18.
Police said officers issued 154 warnings and 10 citations during the campaign. Three people were arrested for driving with suspended licenses.
“Operation Southern Slow Down is all about changing driving behavior before that behavior results in a serious or fatal crash,” Cpl. Andru Eckerdt said.
Eckerdt said the high number of warnings allowed officers to educate drivers about speeding and encourage safer behavior.
The annual campaign brings together transportation officials and law enforcement agencies across Florida and other Southeastern states.
Lady Lake police will next participate in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which runs from Aug. 19 through Sept. 7.
