Sheriff’s officers raid suspected puppy mill in Groveland

Officers found several dogs running loose and others kept in cages on the Sharon Road property

GROVELAND, Fla. — Lake County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement officers responded to a Groveland home on Monday, Aug. 17, following a complaint about dogs and horses living in poor conditions at a suspected puppy mill.

Officers arrived on Sharon Road at approximately 11:30 a.m. Upon arrival, Animal Enforcement observed several dogs running loose, while other animals were being kept in cages and enclosures on the property.

Multiple dogs on the property appeared underweight and unclean, according to the sheriff’s office. Responding officers identified the animals as Rat Terrier mixes.

Animal Enforcement officers attempted to make contact with anyone inside the home but were unsuccessful. The exact identity or presence of any residents remains unconfirmed.

Officers reported that the inside of the residence appeared heavily soiled with animal waste, garbage and debris. A strong odor of feces and ammonia coming from inside the home was noticeable from the outside.
