LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — A trial is underway for Vickie Williams, a woman accused of killing an elderly couple at a senior living community in Mount Dora. Williams faces first-degree murder charges in the deaths of Darryl and Sharon Getman.
The slayings occurred on New Year’s Eve in 2022. The trial marks the first court proceedings in the case following extensive evaluations regarding the defendant’s mental health and legal competency.
Our earlier reports on the arrest affidavit outlined substantial physical evidence connecting Williams to the crime scene within the senior living community. Investigators discovered Williams’ hair, fingerprints, and bloody footprints at the couple’s residence.
Officers also discovered bloodstains and matching clothing inside a stolen vehicle. The legal proceedings were previously delayed following a May 2024 competency hearing that our crews attended.
During that hearing, Williams severely disrupted the proceedings by spitting on the floor and urinating on herself, leading officials to clear the courtroom.
Medical experts testified during the hearing that Williams was psychotic and suffered from schizophrenia. By late 2024, court evaluators determined that her mental health treatment was successful.
Following the evaluation, Williams was ruled competent to stand trial on the first-degree murder charges.
