LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County Animal Shelter is launching a rabies-prevention awareness campaign ahead of World Rabies Day 2026, with a community event planned for Saturday, Sept. 26.
“Pets, People and Wildlife: Stronger Together – World Rabies Day 2026” will feature community partners, activities and educational resources about rabies prevention. Attendees will receive vouchers for free rabies vaccinations and microchipping for their pets.
Vouchers may be redeemed at the Protect and Connect Clinic on Monday, Sept. 28, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Residents who do not attend Saturday’s event may still receive rabies vaccinations and microchipping at the clinic for $5 each.
The shelter will also offer a free “Rabies 101” class for people who care for community cats on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6 p.m. The class will provide information and resources for residents caring for community cats in Lake County.
