ORLANDO, Fla. — Hurricane Ian brought floodwaters to Central Florida, and now residents are seeing the consequences of the standing water, creating the perfect conditions for mosquitoes to thrive.

Now, Orange County leaders are ramping up efforts to get the problem under control.

Orange County mosquito control was around today, spraying to keep the pests under control.
Aside from the ground measures, the county also asked the state’s Department of Agriculture to assist with aerial spraying. The county is expecting an answer by early next week.

Brevard County is also reminding residents of the health concerns, saying everyone should be taking precautions to protect against mosquito-born illnesses like West Nile, and that residents should be limiting their time outdoors.
