CENTRAL FLORIDA — The controversial movie, "The Interview," is airing online and in some local theaters in spite of someone hacking into the company that made the movie.
The comedy centers on an imaginary plot to kill North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, prompting real-life threats from the communist nation.
Most customers supported the decision to show the movie.
Titusville resident Richard Feichtimger said he has seen a lot of movies since his father ran a theater when he was young.
He plans to see "The Interview" when it’s released on Christmas Day.
“I just (don’t) follow the politics behind why Sony didn’t release it initially,” he said.
The controversial movie stars Seth Rogen and James Franco.
Sony pulled the movie from theaters because of threats from mystery hackers but then the company reversed its decision and set a limited release.
“I don’t think we should let anyone intimidate us at all. We’re America, and we fight for our freedom,” said resident Bonnie Vaughn.
There are about 200 theaters showing the movie nationwide, including a dozen in Florida.
Touchstar Cinemas in Orlando and Satellite Cinemas in Titusville will show the film starting Christmas Day.
“We’ve had over 100 phone calls today asking if we’re showing it,” said Kathy Gross, a manager at Touchstar Cinemas.
Residents said they were pleased with the decision.
“I think it can be shown. Who cares? It’s the rights of people to go see it and the rights of people to play it,” said resident James Rausch.
Both theaters plan to have extra security on hand.
