Man, 23, allegedly lied about age to meet underage girl for sex

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Lake County Sheriff's detectives said 23-year-old Bobby Moffitt's boyish looks, and the fact that he lied about his age on a social networking website, led to an unlawful sexual relationship with a 15-year old girl.

"It worked for him in this one occasion with this one victim, and our fear is there may be other victims who have been contacted and might have met up with him," said Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives said Moffitt tried to pass himself off as a 17-year-old, but the victim's mother became suspicious and called the sheriff's office.

Investigators said he admitted to lying about his age online in order to meet the underage girl.

On the website meetme.com, Moffitt wrote he was 17 years old, investigators said.

"The victim reported he created his profile to indicate he was 17 years old, and in his interview with detectives, he admitted to creating that profile to show he was 17, for no other purpose than to get around the safety protections that website has in place to prevent such communication with minors," said Herrell.

According to investigators, this isn't Moffitt's first brush with the law.

In October 2012, he was accused of flashing a 54-year-old woman, who was walking along Okaloosa Trail in Sorrento, not far from the Moffitt's house. Investigators said there wasn't enough evidence for an arrest at the time.

"During his interview with detectives (Wednesday) they brought that incident up, and he confessed to that. So, they charged him with that incident as well from October," said Herrell.

Moffitt was being held in the Lake County Jail on a $23,000 bond.
