BOCA RATON, Fla. ,None — Authorities in Florida said a Boca Raton man was arrested for trying to impersonate a police officer.
Eyewitnesses to the crime said he also tried to kidnap two children.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Alex Fonte approached a group of children playing outside an apartment complex on Tuesday.
Parents said Fonte was offering the children snacks and when they got suspicious he told them he was as a police officer.
"Was playing, being nice, and he said he was a police officer and I didn't have to worry about it,” said eyewitness Carla Guevara.
When one of the parents asked to see his badge they said Fonte ran away.
Deputies found him nearby and took him into custody.
