Man charged with attempted murder after Daytona Beach shootout

Police said two people were critically injured during an armed confrontation on Main Street

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 26-year-old Port Orange man faces an attempted second-degree murder charge following an early Monday shooting on Main Street, according to Daytona Beach police.

Newly obtained video captured the confrontation, during which police said at least 30 rounds were fired.

The arrest comes after police initially reported that two people were critically injured during the shooting.

Police arrested Steven Kyle Ott on Monday evening. He is being held without bond.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Main Street near Froggy’s Saloon at about 2 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.

Investigators said a dispute between two armed people began inside a bar before moving into the street and escalating into an exchange of gunfire.

Police said that while Ott was shooting at the other person, a bystander pulled out a gun and fired several rounds at Ott.

Ott and the other person suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Video provided to Channel 9 shows the fight before the shooting and captures the sound of sustained gunfire.

Police have not said whether the armed bystander will face charges.

Much of the publicly released affidavit was redacted because the investigation remains active.

Main Street is already growing busier ahead of Biketoberfest, which begins Thursday. Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young told Channel 9 that the shooting was unrelated to the event.

Young said additional patrols have already started working along Main Street as tourists arrive.

The allegations against Ott have not been proven in court.
