COCOA, Fla. — A 22-year-old Brevard County man was fatally shot Friday evening near Stradley Park, the Cocoa Police Department said.

The shooting was reported at about 9:30 p.m. on Rosetine Street, police said.

Investigators said Davante Isaiah Brown was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but he died.

Brown's brother said he was an aspiring rapper and attended Faith Temple Christian Center in Brevard County's Rockledge neighborhood. He had no criminal history.

Investigators haven't said why Brown was at the park. Relatives told Channel 9 he had planned to meet up someone and was killed minutes after making a phone call.

Police said they have identified several persons of interest in connection with the shooting.

"We've got bits and pieces of information," said Yvonne Martinez, a Cocoa police spokeswoman. "We need people. We're encouraging people to come forward with additional information to help us put the pieces together."

Detectives said they have received reports that the shooting might have been accidental, but they're still trying to confirm that.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-8477. A $5,000 reward has been offered for information that leads to an arrest.
