Man charged with shooting at SWAT in downtown Orlando high-rise

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police said a 28-year-old man fired two shots at SWAT officers Friday afternoon while they were serving a search warrant at his posh apartment inside the 55 West high-rise downtown.

When officers entered the apartment, Johan O. Lopez-Martinez fired two shots at them, police said.

No officers returned fire and Lopez-Martinez was taken into custody, authorities said.

"When I came around the corner, I noticed they had assault rifles on this man on the ground," said witness Richard Henry. "When they picked him up, they carried him and put him in the police car."

Police said they recovered the firearm used in the incident.

Lopez- Martinez faces a number of charges that include attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon as well as drug charges.

A second person was also taken into custody, authorities said.

No injuries were reported.

Lopez-Martinez has an extensive, violent criminal history, according to police.

He is being held in the Orange County Jail on no bond.
