ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A man is facing a string of felony charges after police said he kidnapped and attacked a woman before leading officers on a high-speed chase that reached more than 115 mph.
Altamonte Springs police arrested Brandon De’yon Inmon after responding early Sunday to a welfare check at an apartment complex on Orange Drive.
According to the arrest report, the call was made through text to 911. When officers arrived, they found a man and woman inside a gray Kia and another woman standing beside the vehicle. The woman outside initially told officers everything was OK, but after the vehicle drove away, she told police the female passenger had just been beaten and was afraid of the driver.
Police identified the driver as Inmon.
Police: Chase reached more than 115 mph
Officers attempted to stop the Kia after determining the woman inside could be in danger.
Police said Inmon accelerated away, ran multiple red lights and drove erratically along State Road 436, reaching speeds above 115 mph.
Officers eventually used spike strips to deflate both front tires. Once the Kia slowed to about 10 mph near SR 434, an officer maneuvered a patrol vehicle in front of it to end the pursuit.
Officers removed the woman from the vehicle before taking Inmon into custody.
Woman told police she was choked, threatened
The woman told investigators she had driven from St. Cloud to Altamonte Springs to meet Inmon.
According to her statement, Inmon pushed her head against a vehicle window and choked her, causing her nose to bleed. She said he later took her keys and threatened her and her friend.
Her friend told police she witnessed Inmon hitting and strangling the woman and said the attack left her a “bloody mess.”
The friend also alleged Inmon threatened to kill the woman and her loved ones and warned that he would “shoot it out” if anyone contacted law enforcement.
Investigators said the friend secretly texted 911 after the woman told her she was scared and asked her to call police.
Police said officers later found two blood-covered rags in the area where the woman had been sitting inside the vehicle.
Inmon denied physically attacking or kidnapping the woman, according to the report. Police said he acknowledged taking her phone and told investigators he fled from officers because marijuana was inside the vehicle.
10 charges filed
Police arrested Inmon on charges including kidnapping, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, motor vehicle theft, high-speed fleeing and eluding, domestic violence battery, reckless driving and obstruction of communication with law enforcement.
He is also accused of driving with a suspended license and resisting officers without violence.
The arrest report states Inmon also had an active Orange County warrant at the time of his arrest.
