Man fatally shot at Orlando housing project

ORLANDO, Fla. — A man was fatally shot at an Orlando housing project early Saturday, the Orlando Police Department said.

Dequan Deandre Rozier, 22, was found lying near a tree along Edgemor Street in the Ivey Lane Homes housing project shortly before 5 a.m., Orlando police Lt. David Arenas said.

Rozier was later pronounced dead, Arenas said.

The gunfire awoke Al Randle, a pastor who lives nearby.

“When I heard gunshots and a car speed off, I knew it was a drive by,” Randle said. “I grabbed my cell phone, came straight out to the door and I started dialing 911.”

The pastor rushed to the dying man’s side, who called his father in his final moments.

“I’m just real hurt right now,” said Akia Rozier, the victim’s aunt. “That was my nephew. He’s young. I just feel like all these young people keep dying.”

No other information was released.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Orlando police at 321-235-5300 or Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
