TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A gunman is at large after a man was fatally shot early Sunday at a Titusville apartment complex, the Titusville Police Department said.
Bobby Lamont Mitchell, 37, of Mims was shot to death in the parking lot of the Emerald Place Apartments in Titusville.
Police said they don't believe the shooting was a random attack.
"The preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect appears to be known to the victim," Amy Matthews of the Titusville Police Department said. "Detectives are working strong leads in this case."
"I just feel sorry that something like that would happen to someone's loved one," resident Paul O'Donnell said. "And my condolences go out to the family."
Mitchell didn't live at the apartment complex, but his death has residents concerned. It's the second fatal shooting at the complex this year.
Brandee Kelley, 24, was slain at the complex in the summer. A suspect is in custody in that case.
"My family is really upset. They say, 'You have to move,'" resident Tina Marie said.
Marie said she didn't hear any gunshots over the weekend, but she did hear the police sirens.
"I was up until 5 (a.m.). I heard the sirens coming, and you know, it's nothing new, you hear it all the time here," she said.
Police said they have significant leads in Mitchell's slaying.
"We feel confident that we're going to get a suspect shortly here," Matthews said.
Police said that despite the two slayings at the apartment complex, they don't consider it a problem property.
