Man found with more than 4,000 bags of synthetic marijuana during traffic stop, police say

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Mike Mohammed was pulled over after deputies saw him not wearing a seat belt.

But it was what they found in the back seat of the car that sent him to jail.

Mohammed, 51, was pulled over less than three miles from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. In the back seat of his car deputies say they found thousands of bags of synthetic marijuana.

The more than 4,000 bags weighed in at more than 100 pounds and have a street value of more than $115,000, investigators said.

“It is a real positive thing for our community to know that much is taken off the street at one time, knowing how dangerous this stuff is,” Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Ryan Robbins said.

Synthetic marijuana is made of a substance similar to potpourri which is sprayed with chemicals, Robbins said. Because of the inconsistency of how it is made, smoking or ingesting it can be lethal.

“People need to understand, especially young people, that this is putting people in the hospital,” Robbins said.

Mohammed was charged with possession of synthetic marijuana with the intent to sell and violation of probation.

He was being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
