Police: Man shot and killed behind Kissimmee business after argument

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Two men were arrested on charges of shooting and killing a 61-year-old man in Kissimmee over the weekend, police said.

Officers responding to reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of Main Street found Guillermo Olivencia shot to death behind an Advance Discount Auto Parts store, police said.

During the investigation, detectives said they were able to identify a vehicle with distinct rims that was involved in Olivencia's slaying.

Officers obtained surveillance video from the store that captured the shooting and the gunman getting in the car.

The driver was identified as 23-year-old Jonathony Santiago, and the shooter was identified as 31-year-old Jason Simmons.

Police said the video showed Simmons running away immediately after he opened fire from a Saturn car.

Before his arrest, Santiago allegedly said to police, “I’m not in trouble am I? All I did was drive him.”

The motive for the killing was retribution for an earlier dispute that Simmons had with Olivencia and an insult made by Olivencia toward Simmons, investigators said.

Police said the victim got into an argument with the suspects earlier, and Simmons became annoyed after the victim came on to him, telling him he had been in prison and liked men.

According to police reports, Simmons told his friend to drop him off at an apartment complex, where he got a small handgun and told his friend he was going to use it to shoot Olivencia.

Santiago allegedly used bleach to wash his hands.

Officers said Simmons was brought to the police department, but did not cooperate with the investigation.

Simmons and Santiago were charged with premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder. They were taken to the Osceola County Jail, where they are being held without bail.

Simmons is set to appear before a judge Thursday.
