Man shot outside Caribbean Hut nightclub in Magic Mall plaza

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened early Monday morning outside a nightclub in the Magic Mall plaza, just up the street from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The body of a man in his late 30s was found lying in the parking lot on Colonial Drive.

Caribbean Hut is a restaurant by day and, according to its website, a nightclub Friday through Sunday, closing at 2 a.m.

Investigators took pictures and gathered evidence just feet from the Caribbean Hut doors.

Authorities said there were a lot of people in the nightclub when someone opened fire outside, prompting several calls to 911.

Susan Wallace was inside the club at that time and said she noticed the commotion. Wallace told WFTV a small group was hanging out inside when things took a turn for the worse.

"A lot of pushing and shoving in the venue from what I saw," Wallace said. "By the time I got out, he was already on the floor. Security was trying to give him CPR, but it seems like at that point, he was already out."

Wallace said she recognized the victim from previous parties at the same club.

"No, it never happened before, as far as I know," Wallace said.

Police said they are looking for the gunman.

The name of the victim has not been released.
