Search continues for gunman in fatal Orange County Amscot shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Search continues for gunman in fatal Orange County Amscot shooting

A man was killed after he left an Orange County check-cashing store Sunday evening.

At about 6 p.m., 30-year-old George Milan left the Amscot store at 5901 S. John Young Parkway, where he had just completed a transaction involving wiring money, according to deputies.

As he returned to his car, he was shot by another man who had been seen pacing outside the store, investigators said.

"There was some sort of struggle, some sort of words were exchanged and the suspect shot the victim twice," said Jane Watrel, with the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said Milan staggered back into the store. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told officials the gunman fled on foot, heading east on West Oak Ridge Road.

A friend of Milan's told Channel 9's Kristyn Caddell that Milan was a flashy dresser who drove a new Audi. The friend believes that made him a target.

"I believe he was targeted and followed here," said the friend, who did not want to give his name.

"It appears that the suspect was waiting outside the Amscot, perhaps looking for some sort of opportunity," said Watrel. WFTV reporter Janai Norman found seven cameras placed in the parking lot where the shooting happened.

"[We're] Making sure our staff is not only safe, but in a good state of mind after such a horrible incident," said Richard Holland, VP for compliance, security and fraud prevention at Amscot.
Holland said Amscot is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Deputies describe the gunman as a dark-skinned Hispanic man between the ages of 20 and 27 years old. They said he was wearing a red hooded sweater and brown pants.

Ann Francis said she frequents the RaceTrac gas station next door and was not shocked to find out about the shooting.

The Racetrac is where a man was shot in the head less than six months ago, and Francis said she's always on high alert around there.

"It's just a high crime, populated area. It does make me nervous, but it's not the most desirable area," she said.

The victim's name has not been released.
