ORLANDO, Fla. — A 14-year-old boy was arrested following a robbery and shooting at an Orlando scrap yard Thursday.
Joshua Leaster was charged with robbery with a firearm and attempted murder.
Officials said the owner of OU Metal Recycling on Orange Blossom Trail, believed to be about 60 years old, was arriving at work when he was confronted by two armed people who demanded money. The owner complied, but he was shot anyway.
"At least two of them possibly were masked. They produced semi-automatic handguns at that robbery and fled the scene. The business owner was injured. He was taken to ORMC. [He was] shot in the upper body," said Jeff Williamson, of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
The victim is in stable condition.
Authorities said the suspected robbers were tracked to a home on Piedmont Court, where officers surrounded the house.
Investigators said eight adults and a child came out of the house.
"Witnesses say three black males in a black El Camino approached the business. One, perhaps, staying in the car, two going inside. [They] robbed the business owner. Undisclosed amount of cash," said Williamson.
Leaster is believed to be the driver of the vehicle during the robbery and shooting.
The grandfather of the man who owns the black El Camino told WFTV a 20-year-old's mother lives at the home. The grandfather did not give his name.
"All they just talking about is his car found in my daughter yard. That's all they know," he said.
He said he is concerned about his daughter and grandson.
"Yeah, I'm frightened to hear. That's why I'm here to find out what happened, what's really going on," he said.
No one else was found inside the home, authorities said.
Investigators said they have one person in custody and are searching for two others.
According to investigators, they have responded to the scrap yard nearly 40 times for various reasons.
