ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was shot and killed Wednesday morning on the 4600 block of Carter Street, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

When deputies arrived at about 3:30 a.m., they found Dexter Johnson with a critical gunshot wound.

Johnson, 26, was pronounced dead by Orlando Fire Rescue a short time later.

Vennous Davis said Johnson was her nephew.

"They're trying to cope. You know, everybody is kind of in shock. It hit home and it's senseless, you know, they need to put the guns down," said Davis.

Neighbors said they are scared after bullets hit their homes.

Resident Charlotte Alexander told Channel 9's Roy Ramos that her brother was the first in the house to hear the gunshots.

"My brother, he jumped out of his bed ... and said, 'They're shooting at you,'" she said. "I come out of the door and I see the body lying there."

Davis said she has a message for her nephew’s killer.

"To come forward. You know it's senseless. Be a man or woman, to come forward and let the family be at peace," said Davis.
