DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A man’s body was found pinned beneath a car Sunday morning behind a Toys “R” Us in Daytona Beach, the Daytona Beach Police Department said.
A passerby called 911 shortly before 11:30 a.m. after spotting the body pinned beneath a car behind the toy store at West International Speedway and North Williamson boulevards, Chief Mike Chitwood said.
“At this point, foul play does not appear to be a factor in the death,” Chitwood said. “The victim may have been working on the car and the car lunged and pinned him under the car. This is only a conjecture at this time.”
Investigators said the car was involved in a minor hit-and-run crash at Beville Road and Woodcrest Drive shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
Someone spotted the car at 9 p.m. Saturday behind a Big Lots across the street from the toy store, but officers didn’t locate the car, police said.
Investigators haven’t identified the body.
Detectives are searching the area for surveillance cameras.
The death remains under investigation.
