More than $6M spent to kill giant snails smuggled in by African religious cult

FLORIDA — Florida officials have spent more than $6 million taxpayer dollars to trap and kill snails that could be a threat to humans.

The giant African land snail carries a parasite that can infect humans with meningitis.

The snails can grow more than six inches long and produce more than 1,000 eggs a year.
