VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Update 4:53 p.m.:
The Florida Highway Patrol said a 45-year-old Winter Park man was arrested after fleeing law enforcement during a pursuit and hiding in a county landfill.
Akram Bin Ahmed faces multiple pending charges and is being transported to the Volusia County Jail, troopers say.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office detained Ahmed after receiving a report of a suspicious person at the Volusia County landfill. A Florida Highway Patrol trooper subsequently confirmed his identity as the suspect who had fled the earlier pursuit.
Following the initial pursuit, law enforcement officers established a perimeter around the area and the Florida Highway Patrol towed the suspect’s vehicle from the scene.
Deputies with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office located Ahmed at the facility following a call from a member of the public.
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper then met with deputies to verify Ahmed’s identity and perform the formal arrest.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office are searching for a driver who fled a traffic stop on Interstate 4 and ran into nearby woods off International Speedway Boulevard.
The pursuit began on eastbound I-4 near mile marker 123 when a trooper attempted to pull over a black 2025 Buick Encore.
The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and exited at mile marker 129 onto International Speedway Boulevard, where the driver abandoned the car and ran into the woodline.
The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation into the pursuit. To aid in the search for the driver, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office deployed K9 and helicopter units to the area.
Trooper Migdalisis Garcia, an assistant public affairs officer for Florida Highway Patrol Troop D, provided preliminary details regarding the suspect.
Authorities described the individual as a Hispanic male between five feet six inches and five feet seven inches tall, with short hair and wearing a black shirt.
The suspect’s identity and exact location remain unknown as law enforcement officers maintain an active scene in the search area.
