LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — After years of delays, the accused murderer of a Mount Dora couple is finally going to trial.
Opening statements began Monday in the first-degree murder trial of Vickie Williams, who is charged in the Dec. 31, 2022, fatal stabbings of Darryl and Sharon Getman.
The trial follows multi-year postponements during which legal proceedings were stalled while Williams underwent mental competency assessments to determine whether she was fit to stand trial.
Opening statements in the court proceedings started at 8:30 a.m.
