ORLANDO, Fla. — NASA is accepting proposals for its 2027 Student Launch challenge, inviting middle school, high school and college students across the U.S. to design, build, test and launch high-powered rockets.
The nine-month program gives student teams hands-on experience with NASA-style engineering, including scientific or engineering payloads and formal design reviews modeled after the agency’s flight-development process.
College teams can apply for the competitive University Student Launch Initiative, while qualifying middle schools, high schools and informal education organizations can participate in the non-competitive Student Launch Initiative.
NASA will host two online information sessions on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Central Time to help teams prepare proposals. Applications are due by 8 a.m. Central Time on Sept. 14.nasa
The challenge, managed by NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama, will conclude with a launch event on April 10, 2027, in Huntsville.
