ORLANDO, Fla. — Country music icon Dolly Parton passed away yesterday at age 80, prompting federal and state directives to lower flags to half-staff. President Donald J. Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered flags lowered across federal and state facilities in honor of her memory.
Trump ordered lowering of U.S. flags at all federal facilities nationwide and abroad. Following this, DeSantis directed Florida government locations to fly flags at half-staff for the same period.
Under the presidential proclamation, the US flag will fly at half-staff at the White House, all public buildings, military posts, naval stations, and vessels across the District of Columbia, the US, territories, and possessions.
The order applies to U.S. embassies and consulates abroad.
In Florida, DeSantis ordered flags to be lowered statewide in a memo to Brian Fienemann, covering U.S. and Florida flags at all local and state buildings.
Flags at all federal facilities, overseas posts and Florida state grounds will remain at half-staff until sunset on Sept. 1, 2026.
