ORLANDO, Fla. — The national average price of diesel has reached an all-time record high of $5.85 per gallon, according to fuel tracking data from GasBuddy.
The new peak surpasses the previous record of $5.82 per gallon set in June 2022.
Diesel costs have surged by more than $2 per gallon over the past year, rising from $3.70 per gallon in September 2025.
Recent volatility in global energy markets has been driven by geopolitical tensions, higher crude oil prices, reduced international refining capacity and tight global inventories.
Unlike gasoline, diesel powers fundamental sectors of the U.S. economy, including commercial freight trucks, trains, agricultural equipment and construction machinery.
Higher fuel prices directly increase transportation costs, creating widespread upward pressure on consumer prices.
