ORLANDO, Fla. — An area of disturbed weather that had been monitored for possible tropical development in the Atlantic this week is no longer expected to organize.
Invest 98L, which had a 40% chance of developing earlier this week, has seen its chances drop significantly.
The National Hurricane Center said Friday that showers and thunderstorms associated with the system remain disorganized and that development is becoming increasingly unlikely.
The system is located a few hundred miles east of Bermuda and is expected to drift westward over the subtropical Atlantic during the next day or so, according to the NHC.
While Invest 98L fades from the tropical outlook, forecasters are keeping an eye on another area in the Atlantic.
The National Hurricane Center has added a new area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms to its tropical weather outlook.
The system has a 30% chance of development over the next seven days.
Despite the renewed area of interest, there is no indication that it poses a threat to the United States.
Forecasts show the disturbance drifting eastward, with any potential development expected to remain focused on the eastern Atlantic near the Azores.
For now, the Atlantic has no active tropical cyclones.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs through Nov. 30, so forecasters will continue monitoring the basin for additional areas of development.
