ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County Library System is celebrating Library Card Sign-up Month with a full schedule of classes, festivals and family activities throughout September.
Orange County residents can use a library card to borrow books, e-books and audiobooks, stream entertainment, prepare for exams and take free classes. Residents can apply for a card at an OCLS branch or online.
September’s featured events include:
- Orlando Literary Expo: Local writers can connect with Central Florida literary organizations and learn about available resources at 2 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Alafaya Branch, located at 12000 E. Colonial Drive.
- Bees and Honey Tasting: Visitors can learn about bees and sample varieties of honey at 11 a.m. Sept. 15 at the Hiawassee Branch.
- Music in the Library: Colombian-born folkloric and flamenco guitarist German Collazos will perform at 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Winter Garden Branch.
- Melrose Film Festival: Filmmakers from around the world will compete in categories including animation, documentaries, micro shorts and AI-generated short films. The all-ages festival begins at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Orlando Public Library.
- Fiber arts classes: Branches will offer crochet, macramé, cross-stitch and other activities for adults, teenagers and children throughout the month.
Additional programs include Seed Library Day, a discussion about Florida during the American Revolution, Mexican tin art, gardening history, children’s safety classes and a stop-motion animation workshop.
Some activities require advance registration.
