No jail for ex-Seminole County football coach in student sex case

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — A former Seminole County football coach and teaching assistant accused of having sex with a student will not serve any prison time.

William Nordin taught and coached at Hagerty High School, but that ended after a student discovered he was having an affair with a 17-year-old.

New records show the girl met Nordin on Tinder, a popular dating app, but investigators said she lied about her age, and Nordin said he did not know she was a student.

The girl admitted to having the inappropriate relationship, so detectives arrested Nordin for sexual battery and child abuse.

This week, he struck a plea deal with prosecutors and was sentenced to five years of probation.

WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer said it was a difficult situation for both sides.

"Difficult case," said Sheaffer. "You have a young lady that is 17 years old and 11 months who allegedly lied about her age. The defendant got the best that he could hope for."

During his five-year probation, Nordin will have a curfew, will not be allowed to be alone with kids and will be banned from working at schools.
