ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A Central Florida nonprofit is looking for more than 100 volunteers to help improve about 14 homes in the Tildenville community this fall.
Rebuilding Together Greater Florida is partnering with Orange County Government for a Fixing Up the Neighborhood, or FUN, event on Friday, Oct. 23.
Volunteers will work in teams on projects including exterior painting, landscaping, beautification and minor exterior home repairs.
Professional construction experience is not required for many of the planned projects.
“Fixing Up the Neighborhood is exactly what our mission of repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives looks like in action,” RTGFL CEO José García said. “But an event of this size takes a community.”
Volunteers needed
Organizers are seeking individuals, businesses, civic groups, faith-based organizations and other community partners to participate.
Volunteers will meet at Tildenville Park, 202 Shongi Ave. in Winter Garden, before being divided into teams and sent to participating homes.
Breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks will be provided during the event.
Participating homeowners have already completed an orientation and selected paint colors as preparations continue.
Part of broader affordable housing effort
The event is part of Rebuilding Together Greater Florida’s ongoing work with Orange County to preserve affordable housing and support income-qualified homeowners.
Rather than focusing on one home, organizers said the Tildenville project is designed to make improvements across several properties in one day.
