NY man suspected of faking death came to Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — A New York man fled to an Orlando resort after he reportedly faked his own death.

Raymond Roth showed up at Westgate Lakes Resort just hours after being reported missing near Long Island, last Saturday.

Roth's family and friends assumed he had drowned until Roth's wife discovered emails between Roth and his son, describing a fake death plot.

Evana Roth said Friday that her husband, Raymond Roth, had sent his son Jonathan emails referring to the plot.

She provided copies at a news conference with her attorney. One instructs Jonathan to call his father Sunday in Florida to update him on developments in New York.

Jonathan Roth reported his father missing Saturday at Jones Beach. That set off an extensive search. On Thursday, Roth got a speeding ticket in South Carolina.

Police said Roth has said he plans to return to New York, but he hasn't surfaced. His son's whereabouts also are unknown.
