OCALA, Fla. — A 69-year-old man has been arrested on a second-degree murder charge in connection with a double homicide that claimed the lives of two men in Ocala, according to the Ocala Police Department.
Police said Detective Bessette arrested Mark Robinson, 69, in connection with the Oct. 28 shooting in the 1000 block of Southeast 8th Street.
The two victims, ages 78 and 69, were Robinson’s roommates, police said.
According to investigators, officers had responded to the home earlier that day for a disturbance involving the roommates. Robinson told police that after officers left, the two men went for a walk and he retrieved a shotgun because he believed there would be trouble.
Robinson told investigators that when the men returned, they made a comment about being the “ice cream bandits” and then rushed toward him, causing him to feel threatened.
Officers initially responded to the area after receiving a report of a shooting.
Police said they found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds when they arrived.
One victim was pronounced dead inside a residence, while the other was taken to a hospital in trauma-alert condition and later died from his injuries.
Police initially reported that one adult male had been taken into custody and said the incident appeared to be isolated, with no danger to the public.
The investigation remains active.
