Odessa man killed in multi-vehicle crash on northbound I-75

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Hillsborough County overnight Sunday.

A 42-year-old man from Odessa was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 75 near Milepost 266 after an initial motorcycle collision led to a secondary crash in the travel lanes.

The incident involved two Harley Davidson motorcycles, a Chevy Cruz, and a Dodge Challenger.

The initial wreck occurred when the 42-year-old Odessa man and a 49-year-old man from Spring Hill were riding northbound on I-75. Both motorcycles collided and overturned in the travel lanes, leaving both riders lying in the highway with serious injuries.

Following the initial crash, a 28-year-old woman from Mulberry stopped to assist the injured motorcyclists. She parked her Chevy Cruz in the inside emergency lane.

Shortly after, a Dodge Challenger driven by a 22-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel traveled through the area and struck the 42-year-old motorcyclist lying in the roadway. The impact inflicted fatal injuries on the Odessa rider.

After hitting the motorcyclist, the Dodge Challenger departed the travel lanes and collided with the unoccupied Chevy Cruz parked in the emergency lane.
