1 of 2 men arrested in Daytona Beach NYE fatal shootings to face judge

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — One of two men accused of shooting and killing two people at a Daytona Beach bar on New Year's Eve will face a judge Monday.

Police arrested Anthony Dawson, 30, on Sunday on charges of first-degree murder. He's being held at the Volusia County Jail without bail.

The second culprit, Andre Mayo, 40, remains at large.

Authorities said the shooting happened following a dispute outside of Biarritz Sports Bar on Pearl Street near Bethune-Cookman University.

Abel Morel, 23, of Winter Park and Kevin Stanley, 21, of Deltona were shot and killed.

A third man, Martell Smith, 23, was shot the legs and survived.

Police said the three shooting victims were beating another man until he was unconscious in the street when a man wearing a black leather jacket and a white T-shirt reportedly opened fire.

It was the eighth shooting in 2015 near the club, and as in past cases, police said they were met with resistance from witnesses, unwilling to come forward.

Dispatcher: "Can you meet with the police officers that are there just to let them know what you did see and what you didn't see?"

Caller: "No. I don't want any contact with them. I am actually on probation. I'm just trying to be a good Samaritan."

Dawson had been arrested in the past on several drug and battery charges and possession of a firearm by a felon.
