ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 learned new details about the central Florida woman who said she’s being stalked and terrorized by her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend.
Kaylee, who didn’t want to release her last name, met with Orange County investigators Wednesday and laid out the evidence that she’s been collecting for months.
She was assigned a detective who promised an aggressive effort on the case.
The 21-year-old victim said the texts from her ex-boyfriend threatening to kill her and her family, come in by the hundreds.
Kaylee said she's filed six different reports with Orange County law enforcement and one in Osceola County
Kaylee said she and her mother have taken out restraining orders and she has also filed an injunction against the man.
However, the order must be served to take effect.
Her ex-boyfriend has yet to be served because officials haven't been able to locate him.
Maribel Ojeda, of Harbor House, Orange County’s safe haven for victims of dating and domestic violence, said stories Kaylee's are all too common.
“Unfortunately, abusers are very smart and they are one step ahead of the law a lot of the time, in many of the cases that we have,” she said.
Despite moving, blocking his number and deleting her social media accounts, Kaylee said he still finds her, using other people’s phones and fake accounts.
“He has friends who tell him my location. They’re going to get me killed,” Kaylee said.
Kaylee and her mother hope that Wednesday’s meeting with deputies will help bring an end to their nightmare.
“I actually play deputy myself because I want to catch him too. I’m just very scared for my life, my husband’s life, my daughter, of course,” said Kaylee’s mother, Dee Dee.
Their continued concern is an uncovered area of the law that allows victims who have taken all the right steps, to be further victimized and waiting for help.
According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, one in six women and one in 19 men have experienced stalking at some point in their lives.
“He always gets away. Next time he’s going to shoot me,” said Kaylee. “I don’t understand the system. It’s not set up correctly. Victims have no rights.”
Under Florida Law, any person convicted of criminal stalking that includes a credible threat faces a third-degree felony.
