ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is doubling down on its support for Flock cameras, even as the devices are coming down across most of Central Florida.
The Sheriff’s Office says the cameras serve as a critical tool to solve crimes and locate missing people.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, camera technology has been used in law enforcement for more than 20 years.
However, opponents argue that the cameras violate public privacy, pointing to specific cases where the technology has been misused.
The Sheriff’s Office cited several high-profile investigations where the camera technology assisted law enforcement.
In Pine Hills, officers used the cameras to help solve a serial rapist case.
The technology was also utilized during a murder investigation involving a dismembered victim.
Additionally, investigators relied on the cameras during the murder case of 13-year-old Madeline Soto.
