ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — While investigators don’t know if the same person pulled the trigger in all four, they don’t think anyone was specifically targeted and called the shootings, “totally random.”
The first shooting happened on the Fourth of July at about 4:13 a.m. when an SUV driving on Kirkman Road was riddled by bullets fired from a passing car, deputies said.
The driver of the SUV was able to drive a short distance to a Denny’s near the intersection of Kirkman Road and International Drive and call for help, investigators said.
The second happened at about 5:30 a.m. Monday on Balboa Road.
A woman was driving to work when someone opened fire, hitting her in the head.
She was taken to the hospital with what officials believed were non-life-threatening injuries.
Nearby, deputies found a car in the driveway of a home in the area of Roger Babson Road and Rhodes Court that had been shot.
The fourth shooting happened Tuesday at about 2 a.m. when a 35-year-old man was driving on Orange Blossom Trail near Hermit Smith Road, deputies said.
Someone in a dark-colored sedan pulled up next to him and opened fire, hitting the man multiple times, investigators said.
The victim was able to drive toward Apopka where he spotted a police cruiser at the intersection of Second Street and Park Avenue, about four miles from the shooting scene.
The officer called for help and the driver was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities believe the shooting of the woman and the car in the driveway were connected, but have not said if they think the other two were as well.
An investigation into the shootings is ongoing.
