Orange County to launch classes to teach seniors high-tech skills, online identity protection

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A Central Florida community is taking a hands-on approach and helping seniors sharpen their high-tech skills and protect their information at a time when almost every service requires you to log on.

The new class will help Orange County seniors learn to better navigate the digital world.

The program is specifically geared towards helping low-income seniors learn valuable skills -- from how to make a FaceTime call to filling out their health care forms online.

Orange County commissioners approved $250,000 in funding to start new broadband literacy classes.

The county hopes to get the program up and running by early March. Two-hour broadband literacy classes to eight different community centers.

The course will be taught by certified teachers with the From the Heart Charitable Foundation. They’ll teach seniors how to keep their personal information safe as they learn to access health care, educational information, or job opportunities digitally.
