Orange County man arrested after allegedly stabbing father

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A man was arrested in Orange County after authorities said he stabbed his father.

Deputies said they arrived at the home on Wild Tamarind Boulevard in Avalon Park just before 7 a.m. Sunday, where they found David Burns, 68, stabbed in the chest and head.

Family members at the home said the man’s adult son, Zachary Burns, 26, had stabbed his father multiple times.

Zachary Burns had recently been released from a mental health facility where he had received treatment.

Deputies said he fled after the stabbing, but later returned and was taken into custody.

Neighbors said the area is usually quiet and the crime has put them on edge.

“It makes me nervous seeing this. You know, Avalon is usually quiet around here. It’s got us all shaken up. I have three little ones here,” said resident Yesika Cancel.

Zachary Burns is being charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The father, who is expected to survive, was taken to the hospital.

Cancel said they’ve noticed the suspect’s odd behavior before.

“I would come home after work and see him walking back and forth, just talking to himself, so it is kind of strange,” she said. “They mostly kept to themselves. It is just a shock to all of us really.”

Deputies are still unsure what led to the stabbing.
